In 1986, Scot MacNeill saw a problem that others in the automotive industry had simply come to accept: car dealerships struggled to maintain accurate parts inventory. Mistakes in counts led to lost sales, unhappy service departments, and wasted money. Scot, who had years of experience in dealership operations, knew there had to be a better way. So he founded Pro-Count, setting out with a clipboard, a pencil, and an idea: to bring professionalism, precision, and trust to dealership inventory.
What began as a one-man operation quickly grew through word of mouth. Scot’s dedication to accuracy, honesty, and service stood out in a field that often treated inventory as an afterthought. He believed that dealerships deserved better. He personally visited hundreds of locations in the New York City metro area, building relationships not only with owners and managers, but with the parts personnel on the ground. To Scot, every count mattered, and so did every person behind the counter.
Today, nearly 40 years later, Pro-Count is still family-owned and proudly run by Scot’s son, Derek MacNeill. Having grown up around parts departments and inventory checklists, Derek brings a deep understanding of the business—along with a modern vision. Under his leadership, Pro-Count continues to serve dealerships throughout the tristate area, earning the trust of hundreds of dealerships by doing one thing exceptionally well: counting parts the right way.
